New IPPF Statement on Person-Centred Care for STIs

STIs create significant gender imbalances and inequitable impacts. Although cisgender men often have higher incidence rates of STIs, cisgender women are disproportionately affected by complications that can result in lifelong consequences, due in part to the anatomy of the female reproductive tract.

This month the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) International Medical Advisory Panel (IMAP) has released a statement on STIs, providing practical recommendations on developing a comprehensive, people-centred approach to STI care, emphasizing integrated services, adherence to guidelines, rights-based care, community engagement, advocacy, and a positive perspective on sexual health and well-being.
